Arlington is called Shelby County's best-kept secret and rightfully so, as it has remained a small, quiet, rural town for two centuries. Despite its recent growth, the tranquility prevails while star-filled skies outshine their scattered street lamps. Settlers first came to the area around 1830. Many of descendants still live in town. The town was named Haysville after the original landowner Samuel Jackson Hays, nephew of President Andrew Jackson.
The 2010 US Census revealed Arlington is the 2nd fastest-growing community in the State of Tennessee. There are new neighborhoods springing up all over Arlington around the beautiful historic districts. The population is a potpourri of long-standing family heritage, relocation from all over the globe and Memphians who moved a little further to enjoy a more rural environment.
By providing a great selection of newer construction, larger lots, less city taxes and a little more home for the money, Arlington is one of the favorite incorporated areas outside of Memphis. There are several routes for the commute to Memphis. Some prefer the expressway and others the scenic highway. Regardless, you are about a 15-minute drive to the outskirts of Memphis.
